Which Football Bet Types Win Most Often? 3,700 Predictions Analysed

Football predictions are easy to publish. Proving how they performed over time is much harder.

At EaglePredict, we have been tracking and grading our daily football tips rather than simply highlighting the winners. We analysed 806 Predictions of the Day and 2,889 individual accumulator selections, covering more than two years of results.

The headline finding? 663 of our 806 Predictions of the Day won, giving us an overall hit rate of around 82%.

But the data tells us much more than that. It shows which football betting markets we use most often, which ones have produced the most consistent results and why combining several strong selections into an accumulator dramatically changes the level of risk.

How Did We Analyse Our Football Predictions?

EaglePredict regularly publishes two main daily tips: a Prediction of the Day and a four-leg Accumulator of the Day.

For this study, we went back through the complete tracked record and graded the predictions against the final match results. Losing tips were included alongside winning ones, rather than selecting only the strongest periods.

The dataset includes:

  • 806 graded Predictions of the Day

  • 663 winning Predictions of the Day

  • 2,889 individual accumulator legs

  • 2,215 winning accumulator legs

  • 691 completed four-leg accumulators

  • 252 full accumulator wins

That gives the Prediction of the Day an overall win rate of approximately 82%, while individual accumulator legs won around 77% of the time.

Postponed selections are excluded from the win-rate figures.

Which Football Bet Types Win Most Often?

A few markets appear again and again in our daily predictions. Rather than relying heavily on complicated or high-odds bets, the data shows a clear preference for relatively straightforward markets such as Over 1.5 Goals, Home Win and Double Chance.

Home Win

83.5%

Double Chance 1X

Under 3.5 Goals

Moderate

These percentages are based on our Prediction of the Day record.

The size of the sample is important. A market can show a very high win percentage after only a handful of selections, but that tells us much less than hundreds of predictions made over a long period.

Over 1.5 Goals, for example, was our most frequently used Prediction of the Day market. It appeared 341 times and won on 277 occasions.

Home Win selections recorded 162 wins from 194 predictions, while Double Chance 1X landed 131 times from 158 picks.

That consistency is one of the main reasons these markets feature so heavily in our daily approach.

Why Do Over 1.5 Goals Feature So Often?

Over 1.5 Goals is a relatively flexible football betting market because there are many possible scorelines that can produce a winning result.

A game finishing 2-0, 1-1, 2-1 or 3-0 all produces the same outcome for an Over 1.5 Goals selection.

When analysing a match for this market, factors such as recent goalscoring form, defensive records, league trends and the attacking strength of both teams can all be relevant.

It does not require a high-scoring match. It simply requires at least two goals. Across our tracked record, that combination has made Over 1.5 Goals both our most-used market and one of the most consistent.

Why Home Wins Remain Important?

Home Win predictions have produced the highest win rate among our most frequently used markets, at approximately 83%.

However, that does not mean simply backing the home team in every match.

These selections generally appear when there is a clearer difference between the two teams. That could involve a strong home favourite facing a weaker opponent, contrasting home and away records or a significant difference in squad quality and current form.

Because the result depends entirely on the home team winning, the fixture selection itself becomes particularly important.

Our record contains 194 Home Win Predictions of the Day, with 162 winners.

Double Chance Offers Another Route

Double Chance 1X means the prediction wins if the home team either wins or draws.

That extra possible outcome makes it useful in fixtures where the home side looks unlikely to lose but a straight Home Win may carry more risk than we want for a daily selection.

It has been another regularly used market in our tracked predictions, producing an approximately 83% hit rate.

The important distinction is that Double Chance is not automatically the better choice. It normally comes with shorter odds than a straight match winner, so the decision depends on the individual fixture and how much uncertainty there is around the final result.

Under 3.5 Goals Has Also Been Consistent

Under 3.5 Goals appears less frequently in our Prediction of the Day record, but its results have remained strong.

The market wins when a game finishes with three goals or fewer, meaning common scorelines such as 1-0, 1-1, 2-0 and 2-1 are all covered.

Across 28 tracked Predictions of the Day using Under 3.5 Goals, 23 were successful, giving the market a win rate of around 82%.

The sample is much smaller than our Over 1.5 Goals or Home Win data, so it should be viewed in that context.

Single Predictions vs Four-Leg Accumulators

One of the clearest findings from the data is what happens when several individual predictions are combined.

Our individual accumulator selections won around 77% of the time. That sounds relatively close to the 82% recorded by the Prediction of the Day.

The full accumulator tells a different story. A four-leg accumulator only wins when all four selections are correct on the same day. Across 691 graded accumulators, 252 landed completely.

That is a full-accumulator win rate of around 36%, or approximately one in every three.

This demonstrates why accumulators carry considerably more risk than single selections. Even when each leg has a relatively strong chance of winning, one unexpected result is enough to end the entire accumulator.

And that happened frequently. Around 62% of our losing accumulators missed by exactly one leg.

In other words, a significant number of unsuccessful accumulators had three winning selections and just one result that prevented the full bet from landing.

Our Typical Selections Use Short Odds

Another clear pattern appears when looking at the odds. The median odds for an individual accumulator selection in the tracked odds data were approximately 1.27.

That reflects a deliberate approach based largely around shorter-priced selections rather than regularly chasing outsiders.

Short odds are not the same as guaranteed results. A team priced as a strong favourite can still lose, and an apparently safe goals market can still fail.

However, the profile of our selections shows that the aim has generally been to identify relatively probable outcomes and, in the case of the accumulator, combine several of them into one larger overall price.

How Consistent Have the Daily Predictions Been?

A strong overall percentage matters more when it can be maintained over time. Our Prediction of the Day record has remained relatively stable across the tracked period. Across completed months, the monthly win rate stayed at approximately 74% or higher, while the strongest months approached 90%.

There is also no clear long-term decline across the record. The longest winning sequence reached 21 consecutive Predictions of the Day.

That does not mean another 21-match sequence should be expected. Winning and losing streaks are part of football betting, and historical results cannot predict exactly what will happen next.

What the longer record provides is a better view of consistency than a small sample of tips taken from one week or one competition.

What Did 3,700 Football Predictions Teach Us?

Perhaps the biggest takeaway is that our most successful approach has not depended on finding unusual bets.

Some of the most basic football markets have done most of the work.

Over 1.5 Goals, Home Win and Double Chance 1X account for a large percentage of our selections and have all maintained win rates above 80% in our Prediction of the Day record.

The data also highlights the major difference between singles and accumulators. Individual accumulator legs landed around 77% of the time, yet requiring four of them to win together reduced the complete accumulator success rate to around one in three.

That is why we treat the Prediction of the Day and Accumulator of the Day differently. One is designed around a single selection, while the other accepts additional risk by combining multiple matches.

Most importantly, this analysis is based on the full tracked record rather than a selection of our best results.

We will continue recording and grading our football predictions so that readers can judge their performance using the complete history.
